Student Story-Spring Branch-School Bus 116

In the summer of 2010  I drove a school bus route for Spring Branch Elementary School in Independence, Missouri.  Between the time I arrived in the morning and the time in which some of my students were to depart I had approximately 5 to 10 minutes with them on the bus.

I thought it would be fun to have them give me an idea for a story instead of me telling them short stories as I have recorded from the Chicken Festival.  So I asked them the questions below along with what interests they had.  I thought it might be fun to put together a story using as many, if not all, of the suggestions they gave.

As I knew I was going to record in video the story.  I thought it better not to use the copyrighted names used on the cartoon program SpongeBob SquarePants, which are Barnacle Boy and Squidward in the story.  Therefore I have changed the name to Squid for the bad guy and Barnyard for the popular kid in school.

Please note that this is not a fully refined and finished story as is “The Little Witch Doll”.  But I had promised to have the story would be on my website by 1 August 2010 and I have made every effort to do so despite life getting in the way.

The following is the list of the things that the students on School Bus 116, which I drove, said that they would like to have in the story.  Go through the list and listen to the story and see how many of the things I have included or what has not been included:

Being a School Bus Driver as a regular job and a Storyteller especially during my Super Hero Hours, there is certainly one detail I know for sure: Youngsters of every age group require to speak. Young people possess plainly strengthened presentation ability and enhanced self-esteem when they know that even a single buddy is tuning in and reacting to what they are saying. Kids like entertaining their own close friends, family members, and classmates by using tales of their life even if that lifestyle is actually facing a Television or personal computer.

In a modern world gone nutty with teaching towards the test, I need to state to the worth of humanizing learning, and constructing a learning environment in the school room and beyond. Children are inventive; they’ve got the capability to visualize a entire globe of their own. Nevertheless just what takes place any time their particular creativity is just not required, whenever Television for computer does all of the imagination on their behalf?

Fairytale Cottage

Young children and grown ups delight in reading animal tales jointly being a dependable and entertaining avenue that will bonds them and also the advantage that is not regarded is being able to share ideas and morals. As with all tales which have been tested out and legitimate – having noticed many students tell these kinds of tales each and every opportunity they can on the bus, should you haven’t much tried sharing with or reading this kind of stories with your children it will probably be most enlightening to discover their particular responses.

Family storytelling is as simple as family members telling stories to one another. It is educational and encourages members of all ages to broaden their perspective about the storytelling art.

Knowing there are many narratives from myths, tall tales, or other literature that can be used to start the storytelling. Or simply asking a child the question “How was your day?” is enough for any child to recite his day into story form.

Stories give us a common bond. Stories are like onions, to borrow an old expression, you peel one skin and another grins up at you. Classical fairy tales and stories are like that but were originally told for adults that have been changed by time and culture for the children because childhood is the time of stories.

Family Storytelling

It’s the time in life when everything is still possible and every story is still true. Children will always find story inspiring.

Family storytelling is one tradition of Christmas that continues on into modern times. From the story that led to “Twas the Night Before Christmas” to the tales told in your home when you were a child, the season is ripe with stories to pick at your leisure. Family storytelling is not strong in today’s society, because today’s adult members feel they do not have the time to spend with the children telling life stories.

Children particularly want to hear first hand the stories of their parents as they were growing up, and some of the trouble they got into, but most of all the fun that they had. Hearing family stories help children to understand the value of capturing their own memories. Children love to hear stories of their parents’ childhoods, and family storytelling is encouraged here, as are techniques for helping children create stories from their own lives.

Children love to hear funny stories about themselves, their first words, first steps and the memorable things they have done. And in the hearing these stories the blocks, and criteria for building a good story are also provided.

Listening to lively storytelling in art galleries, watching a video, stage performance, or creating a piece of original artwork while expressing what you’re thinking while doing it, these are just a few of the entertaining activities the whole family can enjoy while looking for stories. Gather the kids and have some fun learning about art! Listening children know stories are everywhere.

Family storytelling is also a communication practice in which families, remember, transmit, and innovate stories through generations. It should be a routine of daily life, and a product of family interaction.

It must be noted that Family Storytelling is not a revered activity in many homes because the stories that dominate the world of some families make them feel as though they are not fit enough to be called human. These families live, sometimes in a living hell, and do not want to remember.

But for the majorityFamily storytelling is a practice that produces family culture by giving systems of meaning and by understanding of certain power dynamics that function within the family. Stories reflecting care, togetherness, adaptability, reconstruction, and humor that is positively linked to the satisfaction of being part of a family.

STORY OF THE LITTLE WITCH DOLL

The story of the Little Witch Doll was inspired by the doll that is shown at the beginning of the video for Beno Stories. What specifically got my attention was the dress that was made for her.

One of my fellow School Bus Drivers had broken her wrist and for therapy, she was told to crochet. To give herself an object to work toward she decided to start crocheting doll clothes. As she progressed, she developed her own style by the time I met her. She showed me this particular doll, and I instantly my mind developed this story.

The results that you see is the story that I developed and put together in video for the doll and hope you are as well pleased with the results as I am.

Short Short Story Jam 2

Storytelling for Beno Stories, I am putting up my first attempts at videoing.  I did it to see what I could do with it.  After I did, the following year, it became almost a need for me to video the performances of these tellers.

Short Short Story Jam 1.

For Beno Stories, I am putting up my first attempts at videoing others storytellers, telling stories in a public forum.  I did it for the fun of it and to see what I could do with it.  I knew I was going to be putting it up on YouTube and after I did the following year, it became almost need for me to video the performances of these tellers, and I enjoyed doing it.
